What Is Service of Process in Alaska?

What Counts as Service of Process

A process server, sheriff, or courier can deliver several kinds of documents to your registered agent:

• Garnishment notices — attempts to collect a debt straight from your accounts

Why Alaska Requires a Registered Agent for This

Under Alaska's business entity statutes, every LLC and corporation registered with the Alaska Division of Corporations must keep a registered agent on file with a physical Alaska address available during business hours. That agent is the fixed point courts and process servers use to reach your business, no matter where you personally happen to be — Anchorage, out of state, or out of the country.

An individual serving as agent must meet the strict residency test in AS 01.10.055(a) — physically present in Alaska with intent to remain indefinitely. A business entity agent must be a corporation authorized under AS 10.06. Either way, the requirement doesn't go away once your LLC is formed; it's ongoing for as long as the entity exists.

1. Acceptance. The agent takes custody of the papers on behalf of your business.
2. Scanning. The documents are scanned the same business day they're received.
3. Notification. You get an email with the scan attached and a copy in your online portal, so you're reading it the same day it landed on the agent's desk — not days later after it sits in a mailbox.
