The disclosure belongs at the top: AK Registered Agent.org owns this page, and the $99 Alaska service it points you toward is ours. Read accordingly. What follows about Inc Authority is limited to what they publish, and one thing we could not find published at all.

A Free First Year Is a Real Thing

Let's not be stingy about this. Form through Inc Authority and the registered agent service comes at $0 for the first year. Not discounted, not credited, free. For someone launching an Alaska LLC on a tight budget, that's a real cost avoided in the exact month when money is tightest, and plenty of owners take it for that reason alone. It's a legitimate offer and we're not going to squint at it.

The Number That Isn't Anywhere

Then year two arrives, and here's our issue. We went looking for Inc Authority's registered agent renewal rate the way a shopper would. The FAQ, the premium package pages, the homepage. It isn't listed. Not buried in a footnote, not in small type under a package tile. Genuinely not published, which leaves the checkout screen or a phone call as the place you'd find out.

We want to be precise here, because guessing would make us exactly the thing we're complaining about. We're not telling you their renewal is high. We have no figure and we won't invent one. What we're telling you is that you can't compare a price you can't see, and that a business decision made with one number missing is a decision made partly blind.

Set the two structures beside each other and the difference is transparency, not just dollars:

Our whole offer fits in one line: $99 a year in Alaska, and the second invoice looks like the first one. Beyond that,

  • service of process is scanned the day it arrives and emailed to you,
  • our Alaska street address goes on the public record in place of yours,
  • the registered office is staffed on weekdays as AS 10.50.055 requires,
  • biennial report reminders come with the service, not as an add-on,
  • and the one other charge we have is $15 an item for scanning ordinary business mail.

For accuracy's sake: $99 isn't the lowest advertised price in Alaska. BetterLegal publishes $90. Ours sits with the lower yearly prices on offer here, and unlike a renewal you have to phone somebody to learn, it's printed where you can find it before you spend a dollar.

Switching From Inc Authority in Alaska: One Form

Alaska's requirements shape this a little. Your replacement has to be an individual who genuinely resides in Alaska or a corporation authorized to do business here. An LLC can't serve as anyone's registered agent in this state, and your entity can't name itself. Once you've picked someone who qualifies, the filing is Form 08-409, Alaska's Statement of Change of Registered Agent, plus a $25 fee, both sent to the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing. That single form handles every entity type except religious corporations.

Get the new agent appointed before that form goes in. You'll need their Alaska physical and mailing addresses to complete it, and doing it that way means the handoff on the state's record happens without a single uncovered day.

If your Inc Authority agent service is still inside its free year, there's nothing to cancel financially, but do close the loop with them anyway so no renewal charge appears later. And if year two already started, ask them what you're being billed before you pay it. You're entitled to know the number, even if it took a phone call to get it.
